
Carlos Medina-Diaz was born in San Bernardino CA, and grew up in surrounding cities, occupying most of their time studying music and martial arts. They began their dance practice at Riverside City College in 2010, during which time they had the opportunity to work with Lux Boreal, Stephanie Gilliland, Intersect Dance Theatre, and MULTIPLEX DANCE CO. Carlos continued their dance studies at California Institute of the Arts for one year before transferring to San Francisco Art Institute and earning a BFA in New Genres. Carlos is the recipient of Holly Johnston/Ledges and Bones Emerging Artists Scholarship(2012), RCC's Student of Distinction Award(2014) and SFAI’s New Genres Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award(2017). Carlos has had the privilege of working and performing with Andrei Codrescu as a part of the SF DADA World Fair 2016, as an intervention to Mel Ziegler: A Living Thing - Flag Exchange in the Walter and McBean Galleries(San Francisco, 2017) and for photo-performances directed by Guillermo Gomez-Peña/La Pocha Nostra (Los Angeles, 2018). Currently, Medina-Diaz teaches Dance for the Riverside Arts Council Arts and Mind programs in Riverside, CA.
